Jennie Cooper - English TutorHi guys! Welcome to the GCSE English Language course!

I hope that you enjoy using the English courses on Moodle. Each section has been designed to help you revise some familiar vocabulary and grammar as well as to introduce you to new language items and the opportunity to practise important skills that will help you to answer exam questions.

You will have the opportunity to practise your writing and reading skills and check your knowledge along the way with quizzes, and multiple-choice question. The activities have been designed so that you can easily work together as a group or independently at home and don’t worry if you think that it’s too difficult, because each course has been designed so that you can receive as much help as you need.

When you answer and submit an essay question, I will mark your work and send you your feedback asap. There are many language problems for you to solve, which will really get you thinking and if you like watching YouTube videos, there are lots for you to enjoy. Also, there are many activities that will help you to find and organise information giving you the opportunity to read, write, listen and talk (a lot).

By the end of each short English course, you will discover that you have learnt a great deal and hopefully, you will start to feel far more confident about your upcoming exams. Enjoy!

 Regards

 Jennie

This course will support you to develop your academic skills and prepare you for further study.

Poor grammar knowledge is a frequent cause of failure in GCSE English examinations. This short course will help you understand the grammatical parts of speech and the work that words do in sentences. You may know all the words that we need to express a particular meaning but unless we understand/use those words grammatically, we cannot get their meaning across or analyse the meaning intended by other writers. This initial course will help you to identify the nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs in sentences so that the essential analysis of a text will be much easier when commenting about how the writer uses language to engage and interest the reader. It will also help you to understand the meaning of words used and how to group them according to the meaning intended.
